The Story of "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)"

"Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire" is commonly called the Christmas Song. The beautiful music and lyrics were composed by Torme and Wells in the year 1946. The most popular recording of this Christmas song, was recorded by Nat King Cole. The imagery in this Christmas song are also complimented by such warm sentiments as are reflected in lines "from kids from from one to ninety-two" which emphasized the essence of the family Christmas. The notion that a traditional Christmas should be white is also emphasized in the lyric of this Christmas song, Chestnuts roasting on an open fire.

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire,
Jack Frost nipping on your nose,
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir,
And folks dressed up like Eskimos.

Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe,
Help to make the season bright.
Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow,
Will find it hard to sleep tonight.

They know that Santa's on his way;
He's loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh.
And every mother's child is going to spy,
To see if reindeer really know how to fly.

And so I'm offering this simple phrase,
To kids from one to ninety-two,
Although its been said many times, many ways,
A very Merry Christmas to you
